Epiphany: Looking Back and Moving Forward

“Epiphany: Looking Back and Moving Forward” is De La Salle – Canlubang’s last event before it officially became De La Salle Univerity Science and Technology Complex, an extension campus of De La Salle University – Manila. This is the annual Student Guild Awards event the school celebrates to recognize students who excelled during the school year. The awardees are voted by the student body. It was held at the Sonoma Clubhouse on the 27th of April, 2013. For this year, it was a formal black-and-white evening event. This was also one of the events I helped organize, as Marketing Head.

In the efforts to raise the attendees of this event, I constructed a booth where people boothcan register and have a feel of what the event was like. I channeled the theme of “prom night” because I know a lot of students don’t get to go to formal events that often because they don’t have a reason to, unless it’s a friend’s debut, and I know some would love to dress up, look pretty and dashing and relive high school since prom was one of its highlights. I brought my grandma’s chandelier lamp, gold tablecloth, a dining set, and borrowed my friend’s mannequin and black gown to be displayed on the side.

The day came and the afternoon was exhausting. Me and the other head organizers, Dennis Dumlao, Kay Ching, Nikka Ramos, and Francis Altez went to the venue to check on the arrangements. To be honest, we weren’t truly happy with the back-drop, but the rest of the components were in-line with the theme. I went to dress up at a friend’s house then came back for the program proper. It was tiring because I never really got to sit down since I went and entertained VIP guests, and helped with the raffle. Not to mention running around to check on things and help whichever way I can. But it was the good kind of tired, especially when a VTR played commemorating the past events the school organizations did. Being an officer of Junior Management Association, some of the events shown were the fruits of me and my friends’ hard work. It felt good to be a part of something that you’ve put so much dedication on and see it flash-backed through that VTR.

awards b&wAfter dinner, a few more speeches, and recognition of the officers of the College Student Council, the awarding started. I was nominated for Business Administration student of the year and was delightfully surprised when I won. I felt so honored to be awarded by the student body. I know the recent University Student Government General Elections boosted my chances of winning, but my fellow nominees and really good friends, Francis Altez and Jaemy Mejia, were also equally deserving.

It feels good to be appreciated and your efforts to be recognized. This award truly fueled me to perform the best way I can, especially after being elected as the first ever College of Business Representative/President of DLSU-STC. This school never fails to make me feel so loved and needed at the same time. Hopefully, I can deliver in the coming school year.

This night was one of the most memorable nights of my life. Despite being who I am and whatever I represent, being a single mom and all, I wasn’t stripped of a chance to experience an awesome college life… and its far from over. With friends and a faculty like this, I will never regret transferring to DLSU-STC.

Kudos to the other main organizers of Epiphany. I wasn’t able to mention all of you, but I owe you guys one. I hope I return the favor in one way or another.

Super late post! Like, 2 months late! LOL.
